KOTA SAMARAHAN: The Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas)’s ‘Talent Recruitment and Career Exhibition – MyCareer@Home’ (TRACE-MyCareer@MOHE) 2018 yesterday hosted more than 90 companies offering some 30,000 job vacancies.

The programme – an annual event by Unimas to enhance the marketability of the graduates through networking and job matching with industries – was conducted by Unimas Students Development Centre, in collaboration with Polytechnic Education Department and the Community College under the Ministry of Education.

The objective was to expose graduates from Unimas, polytechnics and community colleges to the job market.

Assistant Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Datu Len Talif Salleh represented Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan to officiate at the opening ceremony.

In his text-of-speech, Awang Tengah commended Unimas for organising such programme to complement the various online portals aimed at making job-matching more effective.

According to him, unemployment rate in the country was low, at 3.4 per cent, last year.

However, he also pointed out that unemployment among youths is worrying, adding that such trend is also happening in other developed countries.

In view of this, he said graduates must be wary of the job opportunities provided by both the private sector and public service.

“The government encourages graduates to be involved in entrepreneurship and is offering various programmes meant to produce entrepreneurs among graduates,” said Awang Tengah, who is also Industrial and Entrepreneur Development Minister.

He pointed out that the government is continuing with the agenda to produce human capital who are knowledgeable, skilful and possess positive values to become successful in the global economy.
