BRG: purun become a superior product of South Kalimantan peat

BANJARMASIN, S Kalimantan: Deputy Education, Socialization, Participation, and Partnership of Peatland Restoration Agency (BRG) Myrna Safitri said the purun (wild grass) handicraft from North Hulu Sungai (HSU) is one of the superior products of the peatland in South Kalimantan, AntaranewsKalsel reported.

According to Myrna in Banjarmasin, Wednesday, BRG will open exhibition stand and peat market at the Peat Community Jamboree (JMG) to be opened on 28 April in Banjar District.

In these two activities, she said, participants from seven provinces that received the peat restoration program, will showcase the various industries and superior products of each region, originating from peatlands.

“South Kalimantan will display a variety of woven purun production, which has been a growing industry and much in demand,” she said.

In the market, the participants can make buying and selling transactions of various products of origin of peat from seven provinces, including aloe vera, taro chips, and various handicrafts.

It is hoped that the exhibition and the market will improve understanding that peat has considerable potential, if developed and well maintained.

The 2018 JMG hosted by South Kalimantan will be held in Kiram Village, Karang Intan, Banjar District.

This year’s jamboree event was held on 28-30 April 2018, followed by 2,000 participants from seven provinces, namely Riau, Jambi, South Sumatera, Papua, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, and South Kalimantan.

JMG also involves the community, related agencies, TRGD, regional heads, the Peat Restoration Agency and the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Village, the Development of Disadvantaged Regions and Transmigration, the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and the National Land Office/BPN.
