Chung first from Sibu to qualify for Toastmasters World Championship semis

SIBU: Eddie Chung made Sibu proud by being the first to win District 87 Toastmasters International English Speech Contest in Kuching last Sunday, earning a berth in the semi-finals at Chicago this August.

“I am honoured as well as humbled by the experience,” said. Chung who joined the Swan City Toastmasters Club in 2013. He aimed for a podium finish to advance to the Toastmasters World Championship.

Meanwhile, Dr Clement Chen, who is also from Swan City Toastmasters Club, was placed first in the English table topic section.

According to him, perseverance paid off as he has been contesting  for the past 10 years with his first win on table topic at district level. Dr Chen also won second place in the Mandarin Table Topic.

Dr Chen, who is also the founder of Swan City Toastmasters Club, said he is organising a demonstration meeting to recruit members to start a new Toastmasters club.

“I am sure that new club will help to boost self-confidence of  members besides learning leadership and communication skills,” he said.

District 87 Toastmasters International includes Sarawak, Sabah, Brunei and Indonesia.
