KUALA LUMPUR: The Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High-Speed Rail (KL-SG HSR) project will create seven mega cities in Malaysia upon its completion in December 2026, said MyHSR Corporation chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Nur Ismal Mohamed Kamal.

He said once completed, the project would draw investments to these cities, namely Johor Bahru, Batu Pahat, Muar, Melaka, Seremban, Sepang and Bandar Malaysia, where the stations would be located.

“The seven stops will create seven new mega cities or future cities that will bring economic growth, employment and immense benefits to the people,” he told a media briefing on the update of the KL-SG HSR yesterday.

MyHSR Corp, which is wholly owned by the Minister of Finance Incorporated, is the project delivery vehicle for the KL-SG HSR project.

He said MyHSR is currently in the process of finalising the reference design, and this would be followed by detailed design by project delivery partners (PDP) – Malaysian Resources Corporation Bhd-Gamuda Bhd (MRCB-Gamuda) joint venture (JV) and Syarikat Pembenaan Yeoh Tiong Lay Sdn Bhd-TH Properties Sdn Bhd (YTL-TH Properties) JV.

“We expect some advanced works will start by end of this year,” he said.

He added that the land acquisition for the project would be completed in the second half of this year before advanced works began.

MRCB-Gamuda and YTL-TH Properties JVs were appointed as PDPs for the construction of civil works in Malaysia.

MRCB-Gamuda JV has been appointed as PDP for northern area consisting of three domestic stations and one International station between Bandar Malaysia and Melaka with an alignment of 135 kilometres.

On the other hand, YTL-TH Properties is responsible for the southern area spanning 200 kilometres, including two domestic stations and one international station between Melaka and Iskandar Puteri. — Bernama
