Petronas gives away RM120,000 to 10 NGOs

KUCHING: Ten local non-governmental organisations (NGOs) here have received a total of RM120,000 from Petronas.

Society Kuching Urban Poor, Special Olympic Sarawak, Methodist Women’s Fellowship, The Federation of Kuching and Samarahan Division Chinese Association Women’s Section Sarawak, Penrissen Camp First Division Community-based Rehabilitation Centre, Kuching and Samarahan Division Cerebral Palsy Association, Federation of Sarawak Chung Hua Association, Sarawak Para Tenpin Bowling Association, Persatuan Orang Cacat Penglihatan Malaysia Negeri Sarawak and Kuching Spinal Injuries Association are the recipients of the contribution, which is part of the RM10-million fund that Petronas has set aside to help the state government fund its social welfare programmes.

The contribution was presented by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg during the launch of the ‘Sejiwa Senada’ programme at Batu Kawah New Township here yesterday.

“Petronas is committed to assisting the Sarawak government enhance the wellbeing of the community in Sarawak,” said Petronas Sarawak regional office general manager Shamsur Taha.

Apart from the contribution to NGOs, Petronas has also committed an additional RM460 million to implement various corporate social investment (CSI) projects in Sarawak, which include those meant for Bintulu Mara Junior Science College (MRSM), Asrama Harian Luar Bandar in Paloh, Petronas-Sarawak Forestry Eco-Marine project in Miri, PetroSAINS Playsmart Centre in Kuching and four community centres.

Witnessing the presentation were State Secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani; Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian; Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah; Assistant Minister of Community Well Being Datuk Francis Harden Hollis and Demak Laut assemblyman Dr Hazland Abang Hipni.
