BANJARMASIN, S Kalimantan: Chairman of Commission III of Banjarmasin Legislative Council (DPRD) H Asmat stated, the city government must have a precise step to deal with rubbish in the Martapura River in order not to continue to be a problem, AntaranewsKalsel reported.

“Every year the Martapura River in our area always gets the problem of the huge waste. There must be a great step forward in handling it,” said the PKB politician here on Friday.

He said he was very concerned about the condition of the Martapura River in Banjarmasin which is the downstream part and experiencing a large landfill.

In fact, Asmat said, the large garbage from hyacinths mixed with twigs and logs and bamboo is being caught under the Lama Market Bridge and Antasari Bridge beside Sudimampir Market.

“The amount of garbage caught under these two bridges every year becomes our routine view. Will it be always like this? It needs to be changed in handling strategy,” said Asmat.

Because, he said, if only rely on the broomstick ship that every year the city government rented to clean the Martapura River, does not seem to work optimally.

Asmat recommends the municipal government to have other equipment with more modern technology and can capture large volume of river waste.
