BINTULU: A total of 75 students who are members of Kelab Rukun Negara from six secondary schools here completed their three-day-two-night camp at the community hall in Kampung Assyakirin Phase 1.
The six participating schools were SMK Kemena, SMK Bandar Bintulu, SMK Bintulu, SMK Kidurong, SMK Assyakirin and SMK Baru. The cross cultural camp was jointly organised by the National Unity and Integration Department; and Bintulu Education Office.
Bintulu district officer Mataip Sayu who officiated at the closing ceremony yesterday commended the organisers for such a meaningful programme to foster greater understanding and unity among the younger generation.
“Although you only have a week to plan the activities, it was a success and congratulations to all students who chose to take part,” he said when presenting the certificates to the students.
He hoped both students and teachers benefited from the camp. It is a platform for teachers to learn about organising cross cultural activities for students and good for students to appreciate the values of Rukun Negara (National Principles), apart from making new friends.
“In Sarawak we have many ethnic groups and it is important for everyone to understand and respect the cultures of other races.That is why the government introduced the 1Malaysia concept to promote greater unity among people on the ground,” he said.
He also hoped these young students would become role models as they will become our future leaders.
