SIBU: A post-mortem on five family members who died in a collision involving five vehicles at KM45 Sibu-Selangau Road on Saturday has been carried out.

State Traffic Investigation and Enforcement chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said the procedure was carried out yesterday afternoon at Sibu Hospital on Gelunsin Sugi, 44, his wife Alfreda Do, 33, and their children Annatasia Ulas, 15, Camilla Angel, 10, and Richmont Mumin, four.

The family was travelling from Sibu to Bintulu when their compact vehicle was rear-ended by a trailer and ‘pushed’ into the opposite lane where it was hit by an oncoming bus. Two other vehicles, a pickup truck and a sedan car, were also involved in the incident but were not badly damaged.

Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) personnel took about two hours to extricate all five bodies from their wrecked car.

The collision also caused light injuries to the bus driver and five of his passengers, all of whom sought treatment at Sibu Hospital. Police are probing the incident under Section 41(1) of the Road Traffic Accident Act 1987.
