KUCHING: It was a commendable outing for Nolan Chee at the 52nd International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness (IFBB) Asian Championships held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia recently.

The 50-year-old grabbed a bronze medal in the Masters Aged 50-54 — 80kg and Above category, behind champion Li Hua Dong from China and first runner-up Abbas Fadhil from Iraq.

“It was a tough competition, I must say. I was fully capitalising on my months of training and competitive experience to show for the judges.

“I have my family and friends to thank for all the blessings that I have been enjoying. Not forgetting, special thanks to IFBB Malaysia president Edmund Chong for his strong recommendation,” said Chee when contacted via WhatsApp.

For the seasoned bodybuilder, his schedule for this year continues with the upcoming IFBB Singapore Nationals 2018, scheduled to take place this Sunday (May 13).

“I believe IFBB Malaysia is putting me in two categories — Mens Classic and Masters Under-80kg — for the Singapore outing. However, I can confirm that I will compete in the Masters category,” he said.

After the Singapore trip, Chee said there would be two more events to wrap up the year — the Global Classic 2018 in Hong Kong and the IFBB World Cup 2018 in Romania, both scheduled this November.

“I am in the process of seeking sponsors, especially for the Napoca (Romania) trip which needs lots of funding,” he said.

The Singapore championship will mark Chee’s 12th appearance in international bodybuilding competitions since 2001.
