KUCHING: The cultural diversity of Sarawak will soon come to life at Alta Moda Sarawak – a fashion showcase to be staged here in the third quarter of this year.

According to a press statement, Alta Moda Sarawak aims to highlight the many colours of Sarawak’s culture and diversity into the streamline of the fashion industry, applying the subject matter of lifestyle while emphasising fashion as its core.

Its objectives are to provide Sarawakian designers the opportunity to make a mark in their own country rather than having to go abroad to make a name for themselves, as well as to provide local fashion followers the chance to have ‘high fashion at their doorstep’.

A team of talented homegrown designers will be showcasing their designs at the three-day event, which is set to redefine this city as the fashion capital of Sarawak.

They include Paul Carling, Wan Bynun, Anna Sue, Ben Nazry, Gavroche by Arzmy Hargreaves, Embun, Louisa Michael, Aiman Zaini, WYNKA, Keith Sim, Anannasa and Bon Zainal.

Sarawakian designers who are expected to showcase their creations are Paris-based Aaron Von Jolly and Dato Raymond Jolly of the internationally-acclaimed Von Jolly Couture.

The highlights of Alta Moda Sarawak will include a ‘designer search’ competition, with the winner to have the opportunity of representing Sarawak at the exclusive New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2019 later in the year; a ‘model search’ competition; and nightly soirées where the crème-de-la-crème of Sarawak will be treated to ‘Oscars red carpet’-like arrivals.

Top state government officials, celebrity guests comprising television presenters and beauty queens as well as representatives from foreign embassies are expected to attend this event.
