No seventh heaven for Angels as Tigers roar to Club Open victory

KUCHING: Blue Tigers clinched the Club Open Cup challenge trophy of the Kuching 10s Rugby Tournament at the Sarawak Stadium, Petra Jaya on Sunday after out gunning the UPM Angels 19-7 in the final.

The Tigers from Johor, who defeated ATM Barbarian 10-7 in the semi-final, received RM5,000, a replica trophy and medals
while Angels from Selangor collected RM3,000, a trophy and medals.

Sukma Sabah came in third when they blanked the Barbarians 17-0 to walk away with RM1,500, a trophy and medals while the latter received RM800, trophy and medals.

The Plate champions in this category were Sabah’s OSCA Warriors who defeated SDRU Swans 26-5 in the play-off to collect RM500, trophy and medals while Wolfpack edged WORC 19-12 for the Bowl.

SMKA SHOAW claimed their second title in the year when they overcame Sibu Division Rugby Union U18 5-0 in extra time after both teams were tied 12-12 at full time.

The Plate went to Kolej Abdillah who beat Kolej Vokasional Betong 10-5.

Meanwhile, Sibu Goldies were too good for KK Sharks as they beat the latter 33-5 in the Veteran Cup Final while Sajoha Legends of Johor claimed the Plate after edging KRFC Legends 12-10.

Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah presented the prizes to the winners of the inaugural tournament organised by KDRA.

Also present were Sarawak Rugby Union president Richard Song Swee Jin, Kuching Division Rugby Association (KDRA) patron Dr Hazland Hipni, KDRA president Azizul Annuar Adenan and Bank Islam branch manager Ahmad Herni Benjamin.
