KOTA KINABALU: Api Api assemblywoman Christina Liew became the second woman Deputy Chief Minister in Sabah after being sworn in at the Istana Negeri here today.

Liew who heads Pakatan Harapan Sabah and PKR Sabah was also appointed Minister of Tourism, Culture and Enviroment.

Datuk Ariah Tengku Ahmad was the first woman appointed as Deputy Chief Minister during the PBS era.

Liew’s appointment is also seen as Shafie’s response to the call by various women’s organizations for better woman representation at the highest lawmaking level in Sabah.

Shafie’s state government also saw the appointment of several women as assistant ministers namely Janie and Jenifer Lasimbang and Norazlinah Arif.
