South Kalimantan police uncover trade in protected animals

BANJARMASIN, S Kalimantan: Sub Directorate IV Tipidter of South Kalimantan Police’s Special Crime Investigation Directorate (Ditreskrimsus) have uncovered the trade of protected animals in the form of preserved animal body parts, AntaranewsKalsel reported.

“The perpetrators was arrested while trading animal parts in the Novotel Banjarbaru yard on Friday (11/5) night,” said Director of Special Crime Investigation Sr Comr Rizal Irawan on Tuesday.

The disclosure of forbidden businesses came from information obtained by officers that the suspect MS (40) often offers preserved animal body parts.

From the results of the investigation, members of Subdit IV Tipidter Ditreskrimsus succeeded in sniffing the perpetrator’s plan to sell animal body parts.

“When ambushed, the suspect kept the evidence in a large suitcase that is planned to be sold for Rp30 million,” said Rizal who accompanied by Deputy Head of Ditreskrimsus Adj Sr Comr Sugeng Riyadi when met reporters.

The evidence confiscated among are 36 honey bears fangs, 11 honey bears claws, five tiger fangs, two sheets of leopards skin, two fangs of sambar deer, 13 sambar deer skulls, two sambar deer horns and one head of deer.
