KUCHING: Power Aquatics Swimming Club (PASC) from Sarawak finished sixth overall despite only sending 13 swimmers to the Malaysia Junior Splash Swim Leg 1 at the National
Aquatic Centre, Bukit Jalil from May 11 to 13.

The Kuching club collected a total of 269 points in the event which was participated by 1,219 swimmers from 38 clubs throughout the country.

PASC president Tan Kun Gee, who was happy and proud of the achievement, said the number of swimmers participating was an important factor to consider because the assessment result was based on points system.

Overall, PASC won three gold, five silver and seven bronze medals through individual swimmers and a relay team.

Tan singled out Dylan Leong as the most outstanding performer as he collected three gold and one bronze medals.

He also broke two records in 50m breaststroke when he clocked 42.24s to erase the old time of 44.30s; and another new record at 1.33.07s in the 100m breaststroke, breaking the old record time of 1.34.88s. Other medallists were Casper Tan, Sara Tham, and Janice Tan.

“Dylan is also one of the top swimmers in the country in his age group (eight and below) and we are sure he is on the way to be a star swimmer of Sarawak,” added Tan.

He also thanked the Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC) and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports for allowing the club swimmers to train at the Pandelela Rinong Aquatic Centre.

“Proper professional coaching and good facilities are two very important factors for the development of any athlete,” he stressed.

The Kuala Lumpur-based Ikan Bilis Swimming Club with 179 swimmers amassed 1,301.50 points to emerge as the overall champions, followed by Bukit Jalil’s DSA Swimming Club (1,153.50) and Selangor’s Pade-Supersharkz Swimming Club (476. 50).
