KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Association of Tour and Travel Agents (Satta) president, Datuk Seri Winston Liaw, has expressed the hope that the new State government would consider exempting Chinese tourists from the visa requirement to further boost the tourism industry in Sabah.
He said the former federal government had approved the visa exemption for Chinese tourists but it was not implemented.
“I hope the new State government will fight for Sabah in doing away with the visa requirement for Chinese tourists visiting Sabah for 10 to 14 days.
“If the State government can do this, the other states may also emulate Sabah,” he said, when asked to comment about the new State Cabinet being sworn in yesterday.
On another note, Liaw said, Satta would work closely with the new State government for the betterment of the tourism industry.
“I have been in the industry for 28 years. We are looking forward to working with the new government and Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment to bring Sabah tourism to greater heights,” he said.
