Suspected robbers nabbed barely two hours after crime

MIRI: Police arrested two men on suspicion of gang robbery barely two hours after they allegedly held up a convenience store in Pelita around 3am on Monday.

The two suspects, locals aged 25 and 26, were rounded up at a Jalan Merbau budget hotel barely two hours after the robbery.

They allegedly pointed a knife at the cashier and forced him to hand over RM1,800 from the cash register before fleeing the scene.

The duo then checked into the budget hotel.

When contacted yesterday, Miri police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah confirmed the case.

He said acting on the report lodged by the victim, police went to the budget hotel and arrested the suspects.

They seized several items including a mobile phone, two knives, watches, shoes, and RM871.

Police also seized a motorcycle believed to have been used in the robbery.

He said both suspects have been remanded for four days to facilitate the police investigation.

In a separate case, a couple suffered nearly RM3,000 in losses after their house in Senadin was broken into on Tuesday.

The incident came to light when the couple returned home from work around 7.30pm and found their front door had been forced open.

Upon checking, they discovered several items had been stolen including a laptop and mobile phones.

The couple lodged a police report on the incident.
