Tuanku Osman Road to be turned into one-way traffic

A stretch of Tuanku Osman Road which will be turned into a one-way traffic flow.

SIBU: The proposed one-way traffic system at Tuanku Osman Road here is going to be a permanent fixture, says deputy chairperson of Sibu Municipal Council Rogayah Jamain.

“There is no trial period with the new traffic flow which will come into effect on May 21.

“The proposed traffic flow system has been presented to Sibu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCCI), Sarawak Bumiputera Entrepreneur Chamber (DUBS) and others for their endorsement,” she said yesterday.

She, however, did not rule out the possibility of minor adjustments the future.

The council’s enforcement staff will be deployed to the ground to help road users familiarise themselves with the new traffic flow, she added.

“They will assist for for the first few days to direct traffic and  monitor the situation.”

On Ramadan bazaars to be held at various locations here, Rogayah reminded the traders not to litter and use styrofoam containers.

“Use of plastic bags should also be kept to the minimal,” she added.

The fine for littering is RM500.
