MIRI: United People’s Party (UPP) Pujut branch chairman Bruce Chai has asked Miri City Council (MCC) to consider consolidating the two markets at Morsjaya Commercial Centre.

He said he received the suggestion from members of the public during the branch’s Mobile Action Team (MAT) programme held recently at the new Morsjaya market.

“The old market is located next to a petrol station in the area. Although MCC has already provided a new market at other side with complete facilities, some traders still occupy and conduct their business activities at the old market,” he told a press yesterday.

According to him, the new market was built by the council in an effort to create a more vibrant facility for the commercial centre, but that not many people patronised the new market.

He said feedback from the public suggested that traders at the old site be moved to the new market, which is spacious and has ample parking space.

“The old market can become crowded due to its small size, and there are also limited parking areas. I hope the council can look into how best to consolidate the two markets in the area,” he added.
