PENAMPANG: Police here are investigating the statutory rape of a 15-year-old girl by a man she befriended on Facebook a year ago.
The man was also an acquaintance of her mother.
District police chief DSP Mohd Haris Ibrahim said the 15-year-old girl is a student of a secondary school in Tuaran and had left her grandmother’s house in Tamparuli on May 12.
She wanted to look for her mother in Inanam. However while at the bus terminal, the teenager met a friend and decided to stay at the individual’s house.
“At about 11pm on May 15, the girl allegedly contacted the suspect and asked him to pick her up at the Tamparuli bus terminal. The suspect took her to Kota Kinabalu where they checked into a hotel.
“She said they had sex at the hotel that night and later at a rented room in a shop lot here,” Mohd Haris said.
The girl’s uncle found her at the back of a supermarket here about 6pm on May 17 and immediately contacted her father before lodging a police report on the alleged rapes.
Police are investigating the case under Section 376 of the Penal Code.
