SERIAN: Soldiers from the 13th Battalion Royal Malay Regiment seized 100 live chickens en route to being smuggled into West Kalimantan on Saturday.

Its commanding officer Lt Col Ismahizan Ishak said that the seizure was made around 12.30pm during a patrol along Tetangga Akrab, roughly 700 metres from the Malaysia-Indonesia border.

He said the smuggling attempt was detected when soldiers stopped a two-tonne lorry for a routine inspection.

“The lorry driver and his attendant, both Indonesians, were unable to produce any documentation pertaining to their load of 100 live chickens. In addition, the duo did not have any valid travel documents,” he said.

Ismahizan added the two suspects were handed over to the police in Serian for further investigation along with their lorry and cargo worth an estimated RM41,500.
