30 arrested for illegal gambling in statewide raids

KUCHING: Police arrested 30 individuals, including two male foreigners, in the ongoing crackdown against illegal gambling in the state.

State CID chief SAC Denis Leong Soon Kuai said a total of 21 raids were carried out on Saturday from 2pm to 9pm, in eight districts namely Kuching, Padawan, Kota Samarahan, Bau, Sri Aman, Serian, Bintulu and Miri.

“Fourteen of the raids were against illegal 4D while seven were against online gaming.

“Thirty mobile phones, two laptops, betting slips, stationery items and cash amounting to RM3,405 were also seized,” said Leong in a statement issued yesterday.

The suspects arrested included 13 women aged between 17 and 53 years old.

All those arrested are being investigated for offences under the Common Gaming House Act 1953.
