PUTRAJAYA: The new Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has advised the new chief of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Datuk Seri Mohd Shukri Abdull to lodge a police report over what the latter has claimed to be threats that he received while investigating a 1Malaysia Development Board (1MDB) case.

Muhyiddin said action could only be taken if there was a police report and a prima facie case was established after an investigation.

“If there is a report that he was threatened, the police will have to investigate, establish the facts and submit the outcome of the probe.

“That’s the standard operating procedure and, if there is a prima facie case, action will be taken,” he said at a press conference after signing in for work on his first day at the ministry here yesterday.

Muhyiddin was commenting on Mohd Shukri’s claim that he had to leave the country because he felt that his life was under threat when he led an investigation into an alleged financial scandal related to SRC International Sdn Bhd – a subsidiary of 1MDB – three years ago.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun was also present at the press conference.

Muhyiddin said he was convinced that the MACC chief commissioner knew what had to be done in relation to his revelation.

Meanwhile, Mohamad Fuzi said police would attempt to resolve as soon as possible the investigation into the 1MDB scandal, which has attracted public attention.

He also said besides the police, the investigation into the case involved other agencies, such as the MACC.

“As such, I cannot elaborate. As for the police, we will try to resolve (the probe) as soon as possible,” he said.

On the possibility of the police reopening the investigation into the murder of Mongolian model Altantuya Shaariibuu, Mohamad Fuzi said he would have to discuss the matter with his officers before making a decision. — Bernama
