PUTRAJAYA: The Cabinet meeting yesterday agreed that the search mission for missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 by Ocean Infinity, a US-based underwater exploration company, be terminated on May 29.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke said after that date, no further extension would be given to Ocean Infinity.
“After May 29, the decision will be made whether the details of the report will be made public or otherwise,” he said after his ministry’s post-Cabinet meeting here
yesterday.
Loke said the previous government went on to search for MH370 until May 6 and after the new government took over the administration, Ocean Infinity applied for an extension until May 29.
According to Loke, the search extension until May 29 did not involve any fees as it is based on ‘No Cure No Fee’.
As of May 6, he said the size of the search area involved was 76,000 sq km and the extension until May 29 was expected to involve a 7,000 sq km search area.
MH370 disappeared on a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing on March 8, 2014. It carried 239 passengers and crew. — Bernama
