KUCHING: Piasau Zhong Hua Wushu Club, who are organising the 5th Zhong Hua Wushu Inter School Open Championship, are expecting another good response to the tournament to be held at SM Pei Min, Miri from June 16 to 17.

Organising secretary Jong Chin Wei, who is also the club secretary, said 100 students from secondary and primary schools as well as WFS affiliates in Miri, Bintulu, Sibu and Sarikei are expected to compete in the two-day annual affair.

According to him, the competition is co-organised by SM Pei Min with support from  the Wushu Federation of Sarawak, Sarawak State Sports Council and the Sarawak Education Department.

“The main objective of this competition is to unearth new talents from Miri who will be groomed to represent Sarawak in national meets such as the WFM-KPM Wushu Championship, National Wushu Championship and Sukma 2020,” he said.

“Apart from that, the event serves as a platform for the wushu athletes to showcase their skills and promote wushu in Miri, as well as enhancing ties between athletes from the various teams.

“The state coaches will also be around to do talents scouting in preparation for future national competitions. We hope all the schools in Miri can support this event,” he added.

Jong also hoped that the Miri athletes can learn from their counterparts from other divisions.
