KUALA LUMPUR: Cybersecurity can play a bigger role in creating a more competitive and secure business environment in Malaysia, said Dr Rajni Goel, Professor of Information Systems and Supply Chain Management at Howard University.
She said cybersecurity was an important factor for business growth in the era of digital economy, noting that there was a high level of awareness and interest in cybersecurity in the country.
“Organisations are looking at how to incorporate it in their training modules,” she said, adding that partnerships between the public and private sectors, academia and civil societies could help create programmes to promote more effective, innovative and competitive cybersecurity solutions.
Goel was one of the speakers at the recently held American Malaysian Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM) – US Asean Business Council (USABC) Speaker Series, supported by the US Embassy.
American industry experts spoke on topics of bilateral importance, while other experts showcased the best of US technology, innovation and business practices.
Speaking to Bernama in an interview recently, Goel said she was impressed by the degree of openness in learning and sharing of knowledge in working towards a safer cyber community.
On business in the era of digital economy, she said entrepreneurs and companies could take advantage of cloud computing platforms to expand their businesses and be innovative.
She said small and medium enterprises lacked capital to invest on cybersecurity, and cloud computing providing top notch security that a physical localised system would not be able to do so.
Cloud also made data sharing easier, and provided companies with the flexibility, agility and scalability to expand their business, she added. — Bernama
