Batang Samarahan bridge to open May 28

KOTA SAMARAHAN: The Batang Samarahan bridge will finally open on May 28 just before the Gawai Dayak celebration.

This was revealed by Kota Samarahan MP Rubiah Wang when speaking to reporters during the Road Safety Campaign held in conjunction with the Gawai Dayak and Hari Raya celebrations at the Petronas Station along Kota Samarahan Expressway here yesterday.

“Initially the bridge was supposed to be opened to members of the public today (May 25) but was postponed as there are still some evaluation work which needed to be done.

“We are still waiting for coordination from the JKR and are optimistic that it can be used just before Gawai,” she added.

Construction of the 774-metre Batang Samarahan bridge started on Jan 30, 2015 at the cost of RM93,884,460.

Meanwile during the event Rubiah also distributed 300 packs of’ Bubur Lambuk’, items related to the Road Safety Campaign and helmets to road users during the event.

Also present during the event were Samarahan resident Brahim Lumpu and officials from Sarawak Road Safety Department and Kota Samarahan Expressway Petronas Station.
