KOTA SAMARAHAN: The state Barisan Nasional (BN)-led government will criticise the federal Pakatan Harapan (PH)-led government should the latter neglect the development of Sarawak and the welfare of Sarawakians.

In pointing this out, Muara Tuang assemblyman Datuk Idris Buang said this was a reason why BN Sarawak did not join the present ruling coalition.

“If the federal government under the leadership of PH neglects us, we would criticise them.

“This is why we don’t join PH, but will cooperate with them in terms of implementing development projects for the people and the state of Sarawak,” he said when presenting grants and assistance to 73 individuals at the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Muara Tuang office here yesterday, ahead of Gawai Dayak and Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.

The recipients were represented by Kota Samarahan district officer Mohd Ainnie Wahab.

According to Idris, Sarawak would support every policy laid out and implemented by the PH-led government, as long as they are meant to benefit the people and the state.

“BN Sarawak sees no reason to oppose if the policies could benefit Sarawakians – given that they place the interest of the people above all else,” he said.

Idris, who is also PBB information chief, said the grassroots support towards the party remained strong.

Additionally, he also called upon PBB members to continue throwing undivided support behind the party so that Sarawak would not be ruled by non-Sarawakian parties.

On electricity and water supply in Sarawak, Idris said the state government has always been placing emphasis on this matter – striving to meet the needs of the people.

“It is wrong to say that the government has not done anything on this because we have been and are working on projects, carried out in stages,” he added.

Later, Idris presented grants worth RM133,500 to the 73 recipients who represented mosques, suraus and the village security and development committees (JKKK) of Dayak villages.
