SIBU: The ‘Program Komuniti Cemerlang Pelajar Terbilang Bersama Sekolah’ (SKBA) encourages longhouse children to strive for academic excellence.

According to Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) chairman Sempurai Petrus Ngelai, the objective is to encourage parents and students to work together with the school towards achieving good results, and also to motivate students to excel in their studies and examinations.

He was speaking at the launch of the programme at Rumah Micheal Ancho Tabor in Bawang Assan here on Friday.

The SKBA was initiated by SK Bawang Assan under the leadership of its headmaster Sumbang Unjong.

Adding on, Sempurai said the school had also assigned ‘foster teachers’ to the respective longhouses around the primary school.

“I hope this programme would be extended to other longhouses for the benefit of the students,” he said, as he called upon the parent-teacher association (PTA) to work closely with the school and its teachers to help students obtain good grades.

“We must equip our children with good education to ensure a better future for them.

“ Rural schools with the good teachers and facilities can produce good students who excel in public examinations,” he pointed out.

On another front, Sempurai assured residents of Rumah Michael Ancho and those in surrounding areas that the SRDC would work together with the zone councillors and community leaders as well as their ‘anembiak’ (charges) to ensure that municipal services would reach them.

In this regard, he stressed that the council would need cooperation from the residents to ensure effective delivery.

“On projects like road maintenance, I urge the ‘tuai rumah’ (longhouse chieftains) to revert issues and problems to their respective zone councillors.

“I will monitor those requests and issues personally, together with all respective zone councillors.

“This method is very effective as we can monitor any issue forwarded to the council (for further action),” Sempurai said.
