Gawai Dayak celebrants seen at the Kapit Terminal yesterday as they prepare to make the journey back to their respective workplaces.

KAPIT: Celebrants who returned here for Gawai Dayak have begun making their way back to their respective workplaces.

The Kapit Terminal was packed yesterday as outgoing travellers rushed to catch available express boats to Sibu, with some 20 additional boat trips arranged as of noon to cater to the demand.

The trip from here to Sibu is about three hours, with each express boat able to accommodate between 100 and 120 passengers.

Unlike before Gawai Dayak, where personnel from various agencies and departments were present at the terminal, none were spotted yesterday. Despite that, the crowd generally remained disciplined except during the rush to board the express boats.

Meanwhile, those utilising four-wheel-drive vehicles to Miri, Bintulu and Kuching were off to an early start yesterday owing to the longer period it would take for them to reach their respective destinations.
