MIRI: Dayak Think Tank Group (DTTG) hopes to see more representation from Sarawak in the federal Cabinet.

Its founder Wellie Henry Majang said this is to reflect Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) manifesto which promised Sarawak autonomy in education, healthcare and fiscal matters among others, as well as restoring Sarawak’s rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

“The appointment is very important to ensure that Sarawak is not lagging behind in the mainstream of national development because there is a representative to champion the voices and interests of the people,” he told The Borneo Post yesterday.

He said up until now, there is still a question mark as to whether Sarawak will have any representation in the federal Cabinet despite the state having contributed to PH’s victory in the general election.

Wellie said his sources have indicated that Saratok MP Ali Biju is among those from Sarawak who may be roped into the Cabinet, but added that the final decision on any Cabinet appointment is the prerogative of the PH top leadership.

“We also hope that a Sabah/Sarawak Affairs Department can be formed to ensure that the rights of indigenous people in the two states are more secure,” he said.
