UCA to hold singing contest, education talk

SIBU: The United Chinese Association (UCA) here will hold a duet singing contest on July 19 and 20 at the Chinese Pavilion stage during the Borneo Cultural Festival (BCF) here.

Sibu Rejang Musical Club will be coordinating the contest.

Club president Ying Tieng Chai said the contest aimed to unearth new talents and promote singing as a healthy hobby.

The competition is divided into two categories: A (for those aged 16 – 40) and B (aged 41 and above).

Ying told a press conference yesterday that entries are now open and forms may be obtained at UCA premises in Alan Road.

Registration fee is RM20 per pair and all completed forms must be submitted to UCA by July 7 at the latest.

Cash prizes offered are RM500 (champion), RM400 (first runner-up), RM300 ( second runner-up) and RM200 (fourth placing).

Each category also offers four prizes of RM100 cash each for consolation and two special prizes of RM100 each.

Meanwhile, UCA will organise an education talk on June 24 at its premises at 2pm. Facilitators are from the University of Malaya.

Organising chairperson Lam Lee Hong said participants will be informed of the various courses available at different universities, and the procedures to apply for courses.

She added participants will be briefed on scholarships and study loans as well.
