KUCHING: A woman was among eight persons arrested in connection with two break-ins that happened in Batu Kawah and Siburan recently.

Padawan deputy police chief DSP Merbin Lisa said police detained a 22-year-old man on suspicion of breaking into an office in Batu Kawah on June 27.

“The suspect was arrested three days later by a CID team at 3.30pm at shophouse in Batu Kawah New Township,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Merbin said initial investigation indicated the suspect forced his way into the office and stole a computer set, water filter, oven, printer and a vacuum cleaner worth RM6,300 in total.  He said the suspect has prior criminal records for drug abuse, housebreaking and theft, and has been remanded for further investigation.

On the second break-in, which happened at a computer shop in Siburan on June 19, Merbin said police nabbed six men and a woman, aged between 29 and 47.

“Investigation revealed a total of 22 laptops of various brands, 23 mobile phones of various brands, accessories and a piggy bank were stolen.

“We recovered a mobile phone and 10 laptops from the suspects during their arrest,” he added.

The seven suspects have been remanded until July 7 for further investigation to determine possible at-large accomplices and involvement in other criminal cases.
