Foreign masseur pleads guilty to prostitution, fined RM4,500

MIRI: A masseur from Hunan, China, was fined RM4,500 in default four months’ jail by a magistrate court here yesterday, for prostitution.

Magistrate Zuraini Ali Musa passed down the sentence on Yang Jinju, 35, after she pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 372B of the Penal Code.

Based on facts of the case, a police party headed by Inspector Nasrul Hadi Jahat raided a reflexology centre at Jalan Merpati here around 10.30pm on March 21 and arrested a China citizen, believed to be involved in prostitution.

The police also seized a clump of tissues and a condom from the suspect.

Further investigation revealed that the accused who was working as a masseur at the reflexology centre was also doing other jobs, including prostitution.

In an unrelated case, seven men including two senior citizens were fined RM550 or in default three weeks’ jail each  for being present at an illegal cock-fighting ring.

Magistrate Zuraini Ali Musa passed the sentence after considering several factors including the accused guilty plea and appeal, facts of the case, seriousness of the offence, and public interest.

Anthony Nyalau (46), Wilson Uba Andil (48), Philip Hii Ah Choi (68), Serit Bandi (63), Ling Ke Hock (48), Tie Sing Ho (40) and Sulaiman Seruji (31) from Miri and Bekenu were charged under Section 3(1) Prevention of Cruelty to Animal (Cock Fighting), 1953 and punishable under Section 5(1) of the same Act.

Based of facts of the case, acting on information given, a police team headed by ASP Unang Giang raided an open area in Kampung Lusut, Taman Tunku on suspician of an illegal cock-fight being held there.

During the raid at 5pm on June 1, the police arrested seven men at the scene.

The police also seized two live cocks and two dead ones, a weighing scale and a bet recording board as case exhibits.
