KUCHING: Sarawak Energy’s annual Technology Day aims to match technology providers with the people who use technology in charting its technology roadmap.

The 2018 edition, according to a press release yesterday, features keynote addresses by internationally renowned speakers from the field of innovative solutions, Swarmx founder Pulkit Jaiswal and Huawei Enterprise Business Group Energy Sector deputy director Francis Wong Kiam Foi.

Held at Menara Sarawak Energy over two days, the event also featured an exhibition with technology partners and was open to selected schools to allow students to see real life applications of technology in the power industry.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg who was at Menara SEB for Sarawak Energy Ramah Tamah gathering took time to visit the exhibition.

SEB Group chief executive officer (CEO) Sharbini Suhaili said in order to stay relevant, the Sarawak Energy workforce must embrace technology and optimise its usage.

“We want to create awareness in Sarawak Energy of how we currently leverage on technology in our day-to-day operations, and what we can achieve on the digital front. We also want to show to everyone how important technology is to us and how it can be an enabler to achieve our vision,” he said.

He urged Sarawak Energy’s multi-disciplinary workforce to be agile in adapting to changing technology to perform more efficiently, including embracing various digital innovations introduced for its customers as well as the employees.

“We aim to be a digital utility by 2025 to better serve the people of Sarawak, and by having a culture of openness to the changes, we can move forward together towards a successful transformation. We must embrace technology as part of our delivery mechanism in pursuit of excellence in our key focus areas, in support of and in tandem with the State’s ambition for Sarawak to become a digital economy,” he said.

He disclosed that SEB has embarked on a suite of corporate-wide process improvement and enterprise-modernisation initiatives under its ‘Pinnacle Programme’ in order to achieve more efficient and cost effective work processes and service delivery.

These digital transformation initiatives, he elaborated, are at various stages of implementation and cover different aspects of the business including human resource, finance and procurement, asset management as well as fleet management.

Sarawak Energy is also among participating organisations in the Sarawak’s digital leadership and competency building programmes like the Digital Leadership Academy driven by Sarawak Centre of Performance Excellence or SCOPE.
