MIRI: Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds since Tuesday night until yesterday morning kept personnel from Miri Civil Defence Force (APM) busy with clearing fallen trees and branches on the roads throughout the city.

In a statement to the media yesterday, officer in charge of APM Miri, Captain (PA) Mohd Hazle Shah Abdul Hamid, said his men were deployed to few areas in the city to remove fallen trees and branches.

“The first call we received was from Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) Miri office where a huge tree was uprooted during the heavy rain.

“The team rushed there at 8.22am as it blocked the entrance to the RTM office. The operation ended at 8.52am,” Mohd Hazle said.

The team also received a call from a member of the public to help remove an uprooted tree which blocked the way to his house in Sg Rait, near here.

No casualties were reported.
