SK Tabuan Hilir beat Tassuda for cricket title

KUCHING: SK Tabuan Hilir were crowned champions of the Sarawak Schools Sports Council U12 Cricket Competition at SK Tassuda field recently.

In the final against SK Tassuda, SK Tabuan Hilir batted first and scored 81 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 15 overs.

Afiq Hakimi bowled for SK Tabuan Hilir and claimed three wickets for eight runs and SK Tabuan Hilir passed the score for the loss of four wickets.

SK Tassuda’s bowler Hariz Afnan also bowled well to claim two wickets for 12 runs.

En route to the final, SK Tassuda beat SJK Chung Hua by 26 runs while SK Tabuan Hilir defeated SK Kampung Senari by six wickets.

They claimed more honours when Mohd Razif Saifudin was named the Best Bowler and Mohd Izuddin Mohd Ali the Best Allrounder.

The Best Batsman award went to Mohd Hariz Afnan while Mohd Fadrie Sobeng from SK Kampung Senari was the Best Wicketkeeper.

MSS Sarawak cricket technical chairman Abdul Rahman said the tournament was a platform to select 15 players for the MSSM tournament to be held in Kelantan next month.

He added that there are potential talented players in the state competition and hoped to see more schools taking part in next year’s competition.

This year’s competition organised by the Kuching District Education Department attracted 12 teams and SK Siol Kanan was one of the venues for the competition.

Sarawak Education Department official Mohammad Ann and Kuching District Education Office’s Rashid Ibrahim closed the event and gave away the prizes.

Also present was SK Tassuda headmaster Ismail Lobot.
