MIRI: Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad (SPNB) yesterday denied a report in a Malay national daily that it was the organisation responsible for a ‘white elephant’ housing project.

SPNB Sarawak chief communication officer Wan Habeeb Alli Mohdzar in a statement said the report by the daily, which claimed that 241 buyers of the Rumah Mampu Milik (RMM) project at Permy 3 in Kuala Baram here had yet to receive their units since three years ago, was inaccurate.

He said contrary to what was reported, the project is not under the responsibility of SPNB, but a Sarawak government housing agency instead.

“We would like to clarify that the RMM Permy 3 Kuala Baram is not our obligation and we hope the public is clear about this as this matter, if not clarified, would tarnish our image.

“Our own 963 units of Phase 1 RMM project at Vista Perdana Miri is completed and sold out, and was handed over to buyers in 2010 while our 789 units of Phase 2, which is 98 per cent sold, was launched in July 2016 and scheduled to be completed this August subject to approval by the local authorities,” he said, adding the houses are sold for less than RM300,000 per unit.

Wan Habeeb further stated that SPNB had also collaborated with the Sarawak government is giving a fully-furnished single-storey corner house to former national sprint king Watson Nyambek, with the mock key presentation done in the presence of the late Pehin Sri Adenan Satem in October 2016.

“The three-bedroom house is part of the 789 units being built at SPNB Aspirasi’s Vista Perdana Phase 2 by our main contractor Naim Group of Companies, and it was given to Watson as a show of appreciation and Tok Nan was happy with the initiative,” he said.
