SARIKEI: Over 200 students of SMK Sarikei Baru and their parents participated in a community programme organised by Sarikei Division Children’s Activity Centre committee in collaboration with Sarikei Division Welfare Department yesterday.

Sarikei Resident Mod Junaidi Mohidin who officiated at the closing ceremony commended the organisers for initiating a programme which encouraged parents to note their children’s talent and areas of interest.

He believed that by understanding their children’s strength and weaknesses, parents could help chart appropriate development programmes for them, adding that it was not advisable for parents to force children into areas not of their interest.

He also advised the students to be active in co-curricular activities and unearth their potential.

Among those present were the principal of SMK Sarikei Baru Awet Gapor and Temenggong Junia Olia.
