Jealous boyfriend strikes out after baseball bat threat

LIMBANG: Police recently arrested a man after he allegedly threatened to assault his girlfriend with a baseball bat during an argument.

District police chief Supt Mohd Bukhori Saffai said the incident occurred last month when the suspect, via WhatsApp, accused his girlfriend of still being in contact with her ex-husband.

“The 22-year-old suspect from Kampung Pahlawan went on to threaten to beat her with a baseball bat, and even forwarded a photo of a baseball bat to her to stress his point,” he told reporters yesterday.

He said the suspect – described by the victim as the ‘jealous and angry’ type – was arrested at Kampung Bidang, along Jalan Medait here last Saturday following a police report lodged by the victim.

The suspect is being investigated for criminal intimidation under Section 506 of the Penal Code, he added.

In a separate case, Mohd Bukhori revealed that police arrested a man over the sale of illegal lottery behind a shop in the Bangkita area here last Saturday.

He said the 25-year-old from Kampung Pahlawan was nabbed around 2.40pm whilst in the middle of transacting with his customers.

“Cash amounting to RM78, a mobile phone, and various related paraphernalia were seized from the suspect,” he said, adding the case is being investigated under Section 4A(a) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953.
