KUALA LUMPUR: The government is urged to review the Petroleum Development Act (PDA) 1974 to enable matters relating to the national oil and gas company, Petronas to be tabled in Parliament.
Datuk Wilfred Madius Tungau (UPKO-Tuaran) said it would also enable Petronas to report directly on any of the company’s affairs to Parliament.
“Since Petronas is now exempted from reporting to Parliament, therefore Members of Parliament and the public do not know the actual position of Petronas in terms of total oil production, what is happening at the company, how much profits are earned and so on.
“The royal address of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong also cited the aspect of transparency which refers to the financial governance and national revenue,” he said when debating on the motion of thanks of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V’s royal address.

Meanwhile Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong (PRS- Hulu Rajang) in his debate hoped that the PH government would not sideline the needs of Sarawak to also benefit from progress.
He said at present Sarawak only has 35,517 kilometres (km) of roads connecting a 3,150-km route to the rural areas compared to 177,569 km of roads in the peninsula, he said.

Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi (PBB-Kapit) said in the last eight years, Sarawak had only received minimum development spillover.
“Among them is the route from Kapit to Sibu, which has another 5.1 km to be completed. Hence the people hope the government will continue to leverage all the benefits that have been made before,” he added. — Bernama
