KUCHING: A police report has been lodged in Debak after one primary five pupil was almost kidnapped by an armed intruder.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas revealed that the victim was taking his shower when the assailant suddenly appeared and dragged him.

Uggah said the victim struggled and shouted for help and the victim’s friends who were with him also shouted for help, sending the assailant fleeing empty handed into a waiting white four-wheel-drive.

“I am very concerned, I want police to investigate the case. This is the first time such an alarming incident happened. As far as I remember it never happened in Betong,” Uggah told The Borneo Post.

Uggah therefore urged the Education Ministry and school authorities to beef up security measures in rural schools and contact the police immediately if the need arise.

“I would like to call upon headmasters and teachers to pay particular attention to the security of the school especially at night,” Uggah added.

SK Suri Parent-Teacher Association chairman, Stephen Lamkop when contacted said he was rushing to the school for an urgent meeting with the school teachers.

“I will call you after the meeting,” he said.
