MIRI: More than 50 people comprising mostly business people attended a seminar Friday which was held at Miri Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI) premises here.

The seminar, jointly organised by MCCCI and Malaysian Industrial Development Finance Berhad (MIDF) touched on current business opportunities and the benefits the people could enjoy from them.

“The business community is a fiercely competitive place and with inflation and rising business cost, the local businesses face a lot of challenging issues,” MCCCI chairman Lee Khoi Yun said in his opening speech.

“The Competition Act 2010, minimum wages, foreign worker’s levy, Anti-profiteering mechanism, legal and regulatory compliance requirement are among issues that have added to the burden of doing business.

“Thus, we are happy to have a speaker from MIDF to share with us a thing or two about government financing and assistance programmes to benefit the manufacturing and service industries.”

Lee also stressed the importance for the local businesses to understand the country’s financial position and the challenges ahead.

Philip Chan Hong Lih from MIDF shared a topic on financing and government aid funds that are available to the small and medium businesses.

MIDF is a Kuala Lumpur-based financial service provider that specialises in four core business areas – investment banking, development finance, asset management and mezzanine financing.

MCCCI committee members and its Young Entrepreneurs Committee members were also present at the seminar.
