Governor will run to carry Asian Games torch

BANJARMASIN, S Kalimantan: South Kalimantan Governor Sahbirin Noor hopes the people of South Kalimantan will join the Asian Games torch welcoming ceremony that will arrive in the province on July 30, 2018, Antaranews Kalsel reported.

According to the Governor, the torch will arrive in at around 08.00, then will be taken to Jalan A Yani Km 8 and to the city of Banjarmasin via Jalan Veteran to Siring Piere Tendean attraction.

South Kalimantan, added the Governor, is one of 18 provinces in Indonesia to be crossed by the 2018 Asian Games torch.

“And South Kalimantan is the only province in Kalimantan that will be crossed by the torch of the grand sport event, so let us show our support for the success of the event,” he said.

Enlivening the event and as a form of South Kalimantan’s support for the 2018 Asian Games, Governor H. Sahbirin Noor will run to carry the torch of the Asian Games.

“Related to the Asian Games torch relay in South Kalimantan, I will later run to carry the torch,” he said.

For that, he added, it is expected that the entire community of South Kalimantan can jointly support, succeed, and enliven the sport of this grand event.

The 2018 Asian Games torch, taken from the eternal Asian Games fire at the Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi, will be brought up by a kelotok or a traditional motorboat. Kelotok is the hallmark or identity of Banjarmasin City as the City of Thousand Rivers.

Head of Youth and Sports Agency Zakly Asswan Helmi explained that the torch will be taken from Jalan A Yani Km 8 by running between the local athletes and athletes from Jakarta for 10 Kilometers.

Torch then brought into the city of Banjarmasin and then go to Jalan Veteran and towards siring Jalan Piere Tendean.

From the Piere Tendean floating market the torch will be brought by kelotok to cross the river to Zero Kilometer on Jalan Jendral Sudirman, then to Mahligai Pancasila Building. This torch will be spent one night in Mahligai Pancasila, and the next day to be brought again by the central committee.

This torch welcome involves all components, whether TNI, Polri, Basarnas, and other related parties.
