Man pleads guilty to attempted metal theft, fined RM4,000

MIRI: A man was fined RM4,000 in default four months’ jail after he pleaded guilty yesterday to attempted metal theft.

Magistrate Zuraini Ali Musa imposed the sentence on Mohd Izal Jamaludin under Section 379/511 of the Penal Code read together with Section 34 of the same code.

The charge carries a jail sentence of up to three years or a fine, or both upon conviction.

The accused pleaded guilty to attempting to steal metal components at a warehouse in Piasau Industrial Estate here at on July 9.

Inspector Mohd Khairi Mohd Noor prosecuted while the accused was unrepresented.

Meanwhile, in another magistrate’s court, a foreign worker pleaded guilty to criminal intimidation against a fellow countrywoman and received a RM4,000 fine in default four months’ jail.

Senior assistant registrar Md Syafique Md Hilmie meted the sentence on Indonesian national Shahul, 27, after taking into account the latter’s guilty plea, facts of the case, severity of the offence and public interest.

The accused was charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code which carries a jail sentence of seven years or a fine or both, upon conviction.

Earlier, the court was told that the accused had intimidated the victim with a machete on July 22 at a workers’ quarters in Lambir.

The accused, who was not represented, appealed to the court for leniency saying his wife is currently expecting.
