Foreign worker hurt as fire razes quarters

MIRI: An Indonesian worker suffered burns while eight other compatriots lost their belongings after a fire razed their quarters near Bekenu on Tuesday.

The incident is believed to have started around 2.30pm in a kitchen of one of the units.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) in a statement said due to the distance involved, its personnel here were

only able to arrive at the scene at 4.05pm.

“At the time of arrival, all four units of the workers’ quarters were razed to the ground.

“A total of nine persons were affected by the fire, including one who suffered burns and was sent to a clinic in Bekenu for treatment,” it said.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
