Miri-Bintulu road is now accessible to heavy vehicles and four-wheel drives after flood waters began to recede yesterday morning.

MIRI: The flood situation in the division showed signs of improving despite heavy rain early yesterday morning.

Nevertheless, the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) here will continue to monitor the situation in view of the inclement weather.

Bomba Miri chief Law Poh Kiong said the department is monitoring several flood-prone areas including Miri-Bintulu road in front of Lambir Waterfall, Kampung Bakam, Kampung Seah and Kampung Kejapil near Lambir and Sibuti.

“Overall, flood water had receded although several areas remained inundated,” he said when contacted, adding his men had been on the ground providing assistance since flooding began on Wednesday.

He said the receding water allowed heavy vehicles and four-wheel drive to pass through Miri-Bintulu road yesterday, although it remained impassable to smaller vehicles.
