Ministry to implement Green Market project

KAPIT: The Ministry of Local Government and Housing will embark on the Green Market project.

Public Health Division head Dr Cheong Yaw Liang said it is expected to be fully implemented by next year.

“The main component and features of the Green Market concept comprise of composting, recycling, and rainwater harvesting system. Towards achieving such a goal, the state government has allocated some RM5.2 million, which will be allocated equally among all the 26 local authorities in the state to implement the Green Market concept,” he said when chairing the Second State Public Health Meeting in Sibu recently.

On the management of the Green Market, Dr Cheong said it would be run by the market committee of the respective local councils as the project should involve community engagement and participation.

Attendees were also briefed on the success of the Kuching South City Council’s Green Market initiatives.

The meeting also discussed the development of simple teaching kits on food handling and hygiene, as well as the establishment of the Food Premises Code of Ethics System 2018, along with Local Key Result Areas and Standard Operating Procedures for public toilets.
