Couple may face death penalty over RM15k worth of syabu

KOTA KINABALU: A couple will face the death penalty when they were arrested by police with 150.55grams of syabu with total value at RM15,000.

City police chief ACP Habibi Majinji said, the suspects, in their 50s, were detained by narcotic police during an operation along Jalan Tuaran in Inanam around 6.25pm on August 8.

“During the raid, police found a paper packet and upon inspection, found three plastic packets containing crystal like substance believed to be syabu.

“Further inspection revealed that two of the drugs weight around 50.15grams while the third packet weight at 50.25grams.

“The total seized drugs weight at 150.55grams and investigation revealed the total market price is around RM15,000,” he said.

Preliminary urine test on both suspects came back negative of any drug abused but the male suspect have previous drug records, said Habibi.

The suspects have been remanded for seven days to be investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the mendatory death penalty upon conviction.
