Sarawak still free from avian flu disease

KUCHING: There has not been any detected cases of avian flu in Sarawak, making it still free from the disease.

Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Agriculture Modernisation, Native Land and Regional Development Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas  informed that the state has banned the import of chicken from Sabah effective August 1, 2018 to prevent the spread of avian flu outbreak detected in Tuaran, Sabah recently.

“We have banned the import of chicken from Sabah since August 1, this is due to the report of avian flu in Tuaran, Sabah this is to ensure it does not spread to Sarawak. At the moment, there is no reported case in Sarawak,” he told The Borneo Post.

On animal feed brought in from Sabah, Uggah said the transportation trucks will be sprayed with disinfectant to make sure they are safe to enter Sarawak.

He stressed that all necessary preventive measures are in place to make sure the disease will not spread to Sarawak.
