KUCHING: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Women vice-chief Voon Shiak Ni believes that the majority of Pakatan Harapan (PH) supporters are happy with the swift action of the government of the day in probing the scandal-ridden 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

She also said PH supporters are equally happy that 1MDB-related persons had been charged while awaiting the RM1-billion yacht that was allegedly bought using taxpayers’ money to be returned to the shores of Malaysia.

“One of the main reasons for Malaysians to support PH during the last general election is that they wish to rid and root out the corrupt system of the 60-year-old governance under BN (Barisan Nasional),” she said yesterday when asked to comment whether the PH government had fulfilled its 100-day promises.

Voon admitted that the 100-day promises is one of the factors contributing to PH’s historic victory on May 9.

“We do not deny that. And we do not want to be defensive since Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Minister of Finance Lim Guan Eng have admitted that PH will need to delay (the delivery of) some of the 100-day promises due to financial constraints of the nation’s coffers.

“I do not have doubt that the people are with us in the fight against corruption which has drained the country. One of the institutional reforms that PH has achieved as a move to curb corruption is to bring MACC (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission) under the purview of the Parliament and not under the Prime Minister’s Office,” she pointed out.

The reform, she said, is a move to give back power to the people via their elected representatives whom they had voted for to query and check investigations on any possible attempts of corrupt practices by leaders of the country. She is confident that Malaysia will be rich again when corruption is kept at bay while the country’s economy recovers.

Voon called for patience and understanding from Malaysians to let the PH government deliver its election promises within the next couple of years.

“Rest assured that we are putting in efforts to recover the economy of the country, to settle the huge national debts and to fill up the ‘big big hole’ in our national coffers left behind by the former government,” she said.

She also thanked all voters who had given the mandate to PH and entrusted the nation to PH.
